Backstory

Hotaru had a fairly simple life, growing up in a rich and orderly household. His parents were strict as they were the King/Emperor and Queen/Empress of Seido ( despite the Realm showing Republic qualities ). He, along with his three younger siblings ( two sister and one brother ) got along well despite the harsh rules of Orderrealm and found time to play and have fun.

Hotaru was born partially blind, having to learn from a young age everything he would need to know later in life. Due to this step-back, his parents forced him to hide the disability as it grew worse with age. Hitting his adult years, he would be mostly blind but it was unnoticeable.

He did not show much interest in his parents Royal life and opted for a simpler job. A librarian. And despite their displeasure for such, they allowed him to do it. From ages 18-21, Hotaru continued his life as a simple librarian until his parents finally pulled him away.

Hotaru was forced to undertake oaths and rights, being shoved into the Commander role of the Seidan Guardsman as his parents became more strict with the rules of Seido.

His induction was swift for he already showed excellent traits of a guardsman. From then to now, he has worked as a Seidan Guardsman Commander.

In this timeline version, Hotaru is completely gray moral and side wise. If a certain side presents a good case while the other is more threatening, it is likely he will side with the side who is not threatening his realm.

HEADCANONS:

— My interp of Hotaru differs from Canon. He is 5’ and mostly blind save for seeing where he is going & facial features if he looks closely.

— Hotaru RARELY looks closely at ANYONE. So nobody knows he’s mostly blind.

— He loves to read and has a special pair of glasses to help him
See words. However, he does not wear them often & reads from Braille.

— He learned to play violin & piano at a very young age. Now that he knows notes by heart, he can easily play them without his sight.

— Hotaru has AFRID ( Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder ). An eating disorder characterized by highly selective eating habits, disturbed feeding patterns or both. Common eating and feeding challenges for an individual with ARFID include difficulty digesting food; avoidance of specific types of food textures, colors and smells; eating at an abnormally slow pace, or having a general lack of appetite.

— Going along with disorders, Hotaru has Paranoid Personality Disorder: a type of eccentric personality disorder. An eccentric personality disorder means that the person’s behavior may seem odd or unusual to others. An individual with paranoid personality behavior is very suspicious of other people. They mistrust the motives of others and believe that others want to harm them. Additional hallmarks of this condition include being reluctant to confide in others, bearing grudges, and finding demeaning or threatening subtext in even the most innocent of comments or events. A person with PPD can be quick to feel anger and feel hostile toward others.

— He also has OCD: a mental illness that causes repeated unwanted thoughts or sensations (obsessions) or the urge to do something over and over again (compulsions). Some people can have both obsessions and compulsions. He is one of them.

— These also tie into his anxiety & depression.

— Severe PTSD & Nightmares. Insomnia, Hotaru ( rarely ) sleeps even though he needs to. If he does manages to fall asleep, it is probably in a chair or somewhere uncomfortable to keep him grounded.

— Questioning his sanity is normal for he strives for pure order. BUT if you respect him, he will respect you.

— My Hotaru will stay completely in the gray until someone causes chaos in his realm. He does not meddle in the affairs of other realms. However, he will bitch about there being no order.

— He does not remember his other lives in other timelines.

— Hotaru is quick to anger and will not apologize for being mean/harsh.

— It is very hard to get to know Hotaru for who he is. It takes a special someone to get that close to him.

— He does not mind the Gods.

— Hates being called short.

— Dislikes chaos but won’t judge someone right off the bat. He may question them out of curiosity though.

— Enjoys classical music.

— My Hotaru has an undercut but his hair is so thick, when he wears it down with a small bun in the back, it’s hard to tell. But sometimes he will braid it all. It is also longer than the games, reaching his lower back unbraided. His undercut dawns symmetrical designs.

— He has a singular tongue piercing and a few ear piercings. He does not wear them on the job.

— He has control over some fire and healing magic.

— As for his phobias; Aphenphosmphobia fear of being touched, Ataxophobia fear of disorder or untidiness, Atelophobia fear of imperfection, Claustrophobia fear of small spaces, Haphephobia fear of touch, Mysophobia fear of dirt and germs, Somniphobia fear of sleep.

— In my AU of Hotaru, his timeline Seido is considered the Elven realm of the MK universe. As well as Chaosrealm ( ONLY in my Hotaru’s timeline ). Yes!! That means he’s an elf!

— That being said, there are a few differences in my interpretation of Seido compared to canon. Such as it is canon in my AU that cannibalism is a punishment given to those who commit the most atrocious of crimes. It can be given through trial, or in rare occasions the Guardsmen will make their own decision if no one will defend said criminal.

— Anyone involved in the trial will participate in the punishment as they perform the ritual. So Hotaru HAS eaten mortal flesh.

— He has really sharp teeth, every single one of the have points and can easily pierce the skin.

— Hotaru has been forced to kill his younger brother for treachery. He did not wish to do such, and lives with that horror every day of his life.

— despite being afraid of touch/being touched, Hotaru loves affection by someone he genuinely trusts.

— if he is happy enough, he will purr.

— Hotaru is one of the only Seidan’s with pure white eyes. Everyone else has colored irises and slitted pupils.

— His ears are EXTREMELY sensitive.

— Horrible at flirting but he tries if he is interested.

— Genuinely believes people do Not like him.

— He has meltdowns quite easily, not that he means to. . . Usually during these, he shakes a lot and can either burst out in anger or cry. It is usually anger.

— Lowkey loves being called Firefly ( the English translation of his name )
